NEW RELEASES

CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS

LOVE MESSENGERS - WE SAID WE SAID (CD/SOUNDHAWK)  "The world is full of great forgotten songs. So why write any more new crappy originals?" This covers album by Love Messengers (fronted by Timo Paako of SoundHawk Records and Electric Crayon Set) is filled with both classic and more obscure psych, pop, garage, and r'n'b/mod stompers. Perfect for Parties! Features 'Don't Look Back', 'I Need You', 'Coast To Coast' and ten more timeless tunes.

MAURIZIO BIANCHI/NOBU KASAHARA/HITOSHI KOJO - THE EPIDEMIC SYMPHONY NO. 9 (CD/OCTPIA)  A unique release presenting the result of a mail exchange collaboration (2003-2005) among three highly regarded sound artists.

TEATRO SATANICO - KALI YUGA A GO-GO (10"-PICTURE DISC/OLD EUROPA CAFE)  A great looking (and sounding) 10" vinyl picture disc by ritual-industrial outfit Teatro Satanico. Both sides feature a beautiful painting by Saturno Butto.

EXPECTED RELEASES

CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS

KEMIALLISET YSTÄVÄT - ULLAKKOPALO (CD-LP/FONAL RECORDS)  'Ullakkopalo', their fifth album on Fonal, features fifteen co-collaborators, and is perhaps the most ambitious and fluid Kemialliset Ystavat record to date. Whilst individually marked, these tracks, each with a life of their own, also merge together to form one extensive textural flow.

LO JENGI - DANS LES TOILETTES DU PARADIS/ELAKOON MUMMO (10"/FONAL RECORDS)  The French trio Reines D'Angleterre performed in Finland in 2009 at Mental Alaska's 10 year anniversary. At some point during this visit someone came up with the idea of recording music by a random group of people playing in a small basement room with absolutely no plans or discussions whatsoever. The album was recorded at Katajanokan Pommisuoja, Helsinki, by Asko Kananen on March 30th 2009 and edited by El-g and mixed by Mim in Brussels. Lo Jengi is Reinis D'Angleterre, Islaja, Amon Dude and The Hoopo.

CLUSTER - QUA (LP/KLANGBAD)  'QUA' is a multi-coloured picture book, an audio book, which leaves open space wherein fantasy may roam freely in any direction until touching long forgotten dreams. Seventeen rhythmic and harmonic miniatures with mysterious titles pass by the listener like a toy caravan of dark, fast camels, loaded with alien and precious dreams - or is it a mere Fata Morgana?  A new Cluster album is always full of surprises. That hasn't changed over the last 35 years.

AUTHORITIES - PUPPY LOVE (LP/GET HIP)  Remastered vinyl reissue of a classic punk rock title. Includes their semi-legendary single 'I Hate Cops' and its flip 'Radiation Masturbation'.

60’s & 70’s & 80’s (RE-)RELEASES AND ARTISTS + OTHER OLDIES

FUCHSIA - FUCHSIA (LP/ANAZITISI)  Also available as a limited coloured edition, this is an official reissue of one of the ultimate treasures of the UK progressive/psychedelic folk movement of the early 70s. Heavenly melodies, classical string orchestrations and surprising patterns and rhythms go hand in hand on this breath taking collection. Includes an extra single featuring two tracks previously unissued on vinyl.

LAST CALL OF SHILOH - LAST CALL OF SHILOH (LP/ANAZITISI)  This monster rarity, originally dating from 1972, is one of the best psychedelic albums ever to emerge from the Christian underground. Side one mostly offers country-rock flavoured tracks with Grateful Dead and Quicksilver influences. However, starting with the last track of Side A, the music turns towards west-coast tinged folkrock and moody psych with male and female vocals. Excellent and intense stuff! 180 grams, also available on coloured vinyl. Includes big size booklet with biography, photos and lyrics.

ORIONES - CYCLE (LP/ANAZITISI)  Vinyl collection (also on coloured vinyl) dedicated to the work of one of the most appreciated bands from the Greek 70s underground. They started as a covers band, playing songs by Hendrix, Stones and Black Sabbath. After a while they began to write their own material, leading to one legendary 7" in 1978. That single is featured here, together with its B-side and six long (never before released) demo recordings. Includes 4-page insert with lyrics, bio, photos and memorabilia. 180gr vinyl as usual. PVC protective outersleeve.

JANKO NILOVIC - RYTHMES CONTEMPORAINS (CD/VADIM)  Excellent reissue of one of the most ambitious and costly records to come out of 70s library music, the legendary 'Rythmes Contemporains' from the brilliant Janko Nilovic. Between baroque jazz, symphonic pop and mutant funk, 'Rythmes Contemporains' seems to want to make its own rules that defy conventions, siding with visions of the likes of David Axelrod or Lalo Schifrin.

ENNIO MORRICONE - LE CLAN DES SICILIENS (LP/VADIM)  Of all of Ennio Morricone's contributions to Henri Verneuil films, 'Le Clan des Siciliens' undoubtedly remains his most successful one. It's fiercely beautiful. A luminous and dense score that embodies the total class of this incredible Italian maestro. A great believer in learned compositions and unusual orchestrations, Morricone delivers a series of unforgettable themes built upon musical architectures and pitch-perfect structures. A great record from a great composer. An endless masterpiece.

LE MARIAGE COLLECTIF - SEXOPOLIS (7"/VADIM)  This extremely rare and sought after 7" contains the cultish 'Sexopolis', the influential and hexagonical cinematic groove track that many experienced record hunters consider to be the best Hammond funk track ever pressed in Europe.

VARIOUS - AFRO BEAT AIRWAYS (CD-LP/ANALOG AFRICA)  A super enjoyable heavy brew of organ driven Afro-beat tracks from Ghana, raw Afro-funk tunes from Togo and some stuff one shouldn't even try to describe. Another unbelievable Analog Africa-title! Release date: early August.

SELECTED PRESS QUOTES

CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS

SIXTYNINERS - TOO DRUNK TO TRUCK (CD-LP/VOODOO RHYTHM)  reviewed by Joost-Jan Meertens for Planet Trash (translated excerpt)  ...the first Dutch band with a full album on this Swiss label. Listen to 'Too Drunk To Truck' and you'll understand why.

DEAD BROTHERS - 5TH SIN-PHONIE (CD-LP/VOODOO RHYTHM)  reviewed by Martin Coppens for Revolver (translated excerpt)  One way or the other, the song material on 'The 5th Sin-Fonie' is of a high level.

LISA O PIU - BEHIND THE BEND (CD-LP/SUBLIMINAL)  reviewed by Henk Rijkenbarg for Heaven (translated excerpt)  Lisa once again proves to be an excellent song writer. Join her on a stroll through the mystic forests of Sweden, where all sense of time fades away.

SMELL OF INCENSE - A CURIOUS MISCELLANY (CD-LP/SEPTEMBER GURLS)  reviewed by Henk Rijkenbarg for Heaven (translated excerpt)  I should basically mention all twelve songs, since all of them are  beautiful. I just can't find the right words to properly describe this truly outstanding collection of covers.  reviewed by Araglin for FileUnder (translated excerpt)  'Behind The Bend' is full of atmosphere, with a pleasant retro 'psychfolk'-feel.

SCARLET UTOPIA - ADVENTURES UNDER BLACK LIGHT (CD-LP/NASONI)  reviewed by Campking for FileUnder (translated excerpt)  Five long tracks that seem to combine the best elements of Loop, Can and Hawkwind.

UFOMAMMUT - EVE (CD-LP/SUPERNATURALCAT)  reviewed by Campking for FileUnder (translated excerpt)  A dark, heavy and very convincing musical Bible translation.  reviewed by Jan-Simon for Lords Of Metal (translated excerpt)  Maybe the band should stop now, at their highpoint. On second thoughts, no, don't, just continue to make this kind of great records!

URBAN JUNIOR - TWO HEADED DEMON (CD-LP/VOODOO RHYTHM)  reviewed by Jurgen Dignef for Goddeau (translated excerpt)  ...a courageous attempt to re-write a number of unwritten rules.

60’s & 70’s & 80’s (RE-)RELEASES AND ARTISTS + OTHER OLDIES

ANIBAL VELASQUEZ Y SU CONJUNTO - MAMBO LOCO (CD-LP/ANALOG AFRICA)  reviewed by Ewie for FileUnder (translated excerpt)  Velasquez' specialty is the accordion and this release offers recordings dating from 1962-1978.
