NEW RELEASES

CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS

BIG BLOOD - DEAD SONGS (CD-LP/TIME-LAG)  Colleen Kinsella and Caleb Mulkerin have been key personages of the Portland / South Portland sonic underground for over a decade, as members of Cerberus Shoal, Threads, Fire On Fire, etc. Now, after a long running string of self released CDRs and a collaborative 7" with Visitations, there's an excellent full length from the Maine duo. Two voices howl, swoon, alternate and join, lyrical layers peel away endlessly, tiny amps weep in pain, crude percussion booms thunderous, and ragged, beautiful hooks unfurl straight out of the void... Packaged in a mini-LP style gatefold cover with clear varnish overprinting and offset printed vellum insert. First CD-pressing of 1000, the LP is an edition of 700 copies.

MERCILESS DEATH - SICK SANCTITIES (LP/HIGH ROLLER)  Merciless thrash metal from California, for fans of Slayer, Exodus, Dark Angel etc. Released on black and coloured vinyl.

XYSMA - FIRST & MAGICAL (LP/SVART RECORDS)  Grindcore from Finland! Of all the bands born out of the Scandinavian extreme death metal explosion in the late eighties, Xysma was one of the most innovative. This is the sound of a death metal band pushing forward into uncharted territories. Here is a completely remastered vinyl edition of this groundbreaking 1993 album. It comes in two limited editions of both 300 copies, on black and coloured vinyl, with thick laminated gatefold covers and including a large booklet with previously unseen material.

TANKARD - KINGS OF BEER (LP/HIGH ROLLER)  300 copies on splatter coloured vinyl, 350 black, including 4-page insert. Following 'Disco Destroyer', 2000s 'Kings of Beer' is number two in a long list of exclusive Tankard vinyl re-releases on High Roller Records. As usual, this High Roller release is something special. 'Kings of Beer' includes one bonus track, namely a cover version of Metallica's 'Damage Inc.', and offers tons of exclusive photo material.

SWEATMASTER - TURN OVER (7"/SVART RECORDS)  Taken from their forthcoming album, which will be out in August 2010! On the flip it's a song called 'Fifteen Years', recorded during the 'Animal'-sessions. Limited edition of 300 copies.

60’s & 70’s & 80’s (RE-)RELEASES AND ARTISTS + OTHER OLDIES

INVADERS - THERE'S A LIGHT, THERE'S A WAY (CD/FRESH)  The Invaders 1971 album, 'There's A Light, There's A Way' is a forgotten South African rock classic, filled with fuzzed pysch guitars, funky rock riffs, progressive organ/flute workouts and great vocals. The reissue on CD has two bonus tracks.

VIVIAN STANSHALL - MEN OPENING UMBRELLAS AHEAD! (CD/HARKIT)  Considered something of a National Treasure, (ex-Bonzo Dog) Vivian Stanshall was the archetypal English eccentric. But that would sell Vivian short; he never acted the character, he was merely being himself. This long sought-after gem from the 1970s, issued here with additional tracks from the original sessions and updated with reverentially ground-kissing notes by Dutch Dadaist, Freek Kinkelaar is something very special indeed.

EXPECTED RELEASES

CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS

VARIOUS - THEIR HISPANIC MAJESTIES REQUEST (7"/NORTON)  Double 45rpm set (in posh non-3D gatefold cover) featuring four mucho loco Rolling Stones songs con carne - sung in Spanish! Los Peyotes perform, Let's Spend The Night', Together/Davila 666 gave 'She's A Rainbow' a special treatment, Luis and the Wildfires' 'Get Off My Cloud' will also make you go crazy and Los Vigilantes make a solid impression with their version of 'Paint It Black'. Arriba, arriba!

60’s & 70’s & 80’s (RE-)RELEASES AND ARTISTS + OTHER OLDIES

HUMAN EXPRESSION - LOVE AT PSYCHEDELIC VELOCITY (CD/CICADELIC)  The Human Expression's edgy bad boy image was the antithesis of the "flower-children" image so prevalent for groups in 1967. This great compilation-CD offers 16 mind bending tracks, including their three famous singles and five tracks never issued before. The Human Expression definitely was one of the finest garage bands to emerge from the mid-60s Los Angeles music scene.

HUMAN ZOO - HUMAN ZOO (CD/CICADELIC)  Along with The Human Expression, The Human Zoo were from the Los Angeles suburbs of Westminster and were signed to Accent Records. Their album, released in 1970 was pressed in limited numbers and has become a rare collectors item. The Human Zoo album is a quirky blend of psychedelic, garage, and funky music. Managed by Jim Foster of The Human Expression and originally called The Circus, the band changed their name to the hipper sounding Human Zoo in 1969. Now for the first time since 1970, here is an exact re-issue of The Human Zoo album, taken from the original master tapes with all album artwork faithfully restored.

DZYAN - ELECTRIC SILENCE (LP/LONGHAIR)  Originally released in 1974 on famous German label Bacillus, Dzyans third and final album, 'Electric Silence' is recognized for its daring world beat elements, and totally acidic album cover art.

DZYAN - TIME MACHINE (LP/LONGHAIR)  First ever vinyl reissue of their second album, originally out in 1973 on German label Bacillus. On 'Time Machine' the band, in a partly new line up, explored jazz and ethnic tonalities with totally spaced-out and exotic improvisations. A highlight in German rock history! Plus insert with band history, unseen photos etc.

LALO SCHIFRIN - MAMBO IN PARIS (CD/HARKIT)  This CD contains some of Lalo's most interesting work, written during his period in Paris, in the 50s. Sounds as fresh today as it did the first time around. The CD comes with liner notes in both English and French.

JAMESON RAID - JUST AS THE DUST HAD SETTLED (LP/HIGH ROLLER)  Jameson Raid were one of the earliest and more obscure exponents of the NWOBHM. They played shows sharing stags with Def Leppard, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, put out two singles (now mega collectable), but they didn't break through to a wider audience. They probably weren't at the right place at the right time, since this CD does showcase some great talent and personality. Available on black and splatter vinyl, with gatefold sleeve, bonus 7" single, tourbook and 4 page insert.

LONESOME DRIFTER - EAGER BOY (LP/NORTON)  Sixteen song vinyl roundup on Tommy Johnson, the legendary Lonesome Drifter culled from the vaults of Shreveports Ram Records. His 1958 single 'Eager Boy' stands as one of the most sought after rockabilly records of all time. The Drifters' haunting vocals and stark instrumentation make him one of the truly unique figures in rockabilly and hillbilly music. This is real bone chilling stuff! For fans of Hasil Adkins' 'Moon Over Madison' and Charlie Feathers' 'Uh Huh Honey' albums.

BEACHCOMBERS - LIVE AT THE KAHIKI 1965 (LP/BACCHUS ARCHIVE)  A rare live exotica tape from 1965! Exotica music expert Jeff Chenault and Bacchus Archives bring to you a very special live set. Get ready for an exotic evening at the famous Kahiki Supper Club. A tropical rainforest, ferocious Tiki Gods, Mysterious Easter Island heads, a fantastic array of rare fish and tropical birds. Add Palm trees, cascades of waterfalls, tropical cocktails and the rhythmic music of the Beachcomber Trio and you have the ingredients for a true Polynesian adventure. This album is limited to a hand numbered edition of 500 copies and contains a free download coupon. There will be no CD or digital release.

LONESOME DRIFTER - EAGER BOY/TEARDROP VALLEY (7"/NORTON)  Fired up versions of both sides of the incredible Lonesome Drifter's astonishing 1958 K label rockabilly masterpiece! Absolutely stunning!

HASIL ADKINS - WHITE LIGHT/WHITE MEAT (LP/NORTON)  Celebrating Hasil's 25 years as a Norton Records artist with fourteen 1958-65 hunchers and weepers recorded in Hasil's Boone County, West Virginia shack. Insane hard board jacket!

CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS

THE:EGOCENTRICS - LOVE FEAR CHOICES AND ASTRONAUTS (CD-LP/NASONI)  reviewed by André de Waal for IO Pages (translated excerpt)  I haven't heard a more rousing, tense and exciting instrumental space-doom-psych-rock-jam album so far this year.

HILLS - HILLS (CD/SULATRON)  reviewed by André de Waal for IO Pages (translated excerpt)  I'd say "Run for the hllls", since that's the place to be.

TEMPLE OF L.I.B. - MY NAME IS MAGIC (CD-LP/SEPTEMBER GURLS)  reviewed by Jeanette Leech for Shindig! (excerpt)  ...as with Fit & Limo, the songs have a spindly weirdness of their own.

STONEBRIDE - SUMMON THE WAVES (CD/SETALIGHT)  reviewed by Ron Schoonwater for Rockportaal (translated excerpt)  The trance rock outfit from Zagreb spent time listening to f.i. Kyuss and Black Sabbath. However, Stonebride are much more psychedelic...

CIRCLE BROS - HAVEN (LP/MORC)  reviewed by Maarten Schermer for Gonzo Circus (translated excerpt)  A beautiful record for anyone who really pays attention to it.

60’s & 70’s & 80’s (RE-)RELEASES AND ARTISTS + OTHER OLDIES

NOMADDS - NOMADDS (CD-LP/WAY BACK RECORDS)  reviewed by Mike Stax for Ugly Things (excerpt)  The group specialized in a light, lively Merseybeat sound, pitched somewhere between The Searchers and Everly Brothers.
